The X Factor 2012 season 2 semi-finals are here! Only four acts remain in the competition hoping to make it next week’s The X Factor USA finale. Carly Rose Sonenclar of Team Britney Spears seems to have the odds in her favor to go all the way, but dropped to second place again last week behind country singer Tate Stevens of Team L. A. Reid. Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony of Team Simon Cowell trail in the votes, but an unexpected upset has happened plenty of times before on The X Factor. Who will prove they’ve earned a place in The X Factor season 2 finals? Join us for our live The X Factor recap of the semi-finals and watch the action with us!

WARNING: THE X FACTOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

This post contains The X Factor 2012 spoilers for the season 2 top 4 semi-finals performances show. Please stop reading if you do not want to know what happened on The X Factor USA Wednesday night!

****************************************************************

There are four remaining acts performing live on The X Factor 2012 USA tonight, but only two will survive this week to move on to the finals. Heavy odds currently are on those two being Carly Rose Sonenclar of Team Britney Spears and Tate Stevens of Team L. A. Reid. These two have been swapping 1st place in the voter rankings back and forth for weeks. Still, you can’t count out Emblem3 or Fifth Harmony of Team Simon Cowell just yet. You can count out Team Demi Lovato completely though, of course. It’s kind of hard to win if all your singers have already been cut before the semi-finals. Poor Demi, it was just not a good season for her at all.

Here is how the current voter ranking from The X Factor USA 2012 stacks up for the contestants from last week’s vote:

1. Tate Stevens (Team L. A.)

2. Carly Rose Sonenclar (Team Britney)

3. Emblem3 (Team Simon)

4. Fifth Harmony (Team Simon)

While Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens have been riding the top of the pack all season long, Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony have not ranked nearly as well with the voters on The X Factor USA. Emblem3 has managed to stay out of the bottom of the pack for the most part, but never been able to climb to the top. Fifth Harmony has teetered on the edge of elimination and very nearly went home on The X Factor season 2 last week.

Does this mean both of the remaining group acts on The X Factor 2012 season 2 are doomed this week to be eliminated? Not necessarily so! The voters have less acts to support this week, so some of those leftover votes will undoubtably go to the group acts. Emblem3 in particular probably stands to gain extra votes this week from the previous fans of CeCe Drey and Diamond White, who were sent home on The X Factor USA last week.

Plus, there is always that nebulous ‘vote for the worst’ factor in play, which involves mass amounts of people voting for the person they like the least just to skew the system. If you think this isn’t really a factor, don’t forget that Nikki McKibbin made it all the way to third on the first season of American Idol. She is the gold standard of how the ‘vote for the worst’ crowd can make a significant contribution to the voting ranks.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the producers, in collaboration with Mr. Simon Cowell, will pull a fast one at the last minute and decide to push three acts through to The X Factor USA finals this season. After all, The Voice season 3 is doing it, so why not?

Will your favorites prove without a shadow of a doubt they belong in The X Factor season 2 finals? Will one of the group acts somehow pull out a miraculous performance tonight and impress the voters enough to survive The X Factor semi-finals? Our live The X Factor USA recap of the top 4 performance show kicks off right here at 8PM ET!

RECAP: On The X Factor semi-finals tonight, each of the four remaining acts ill perform two songs. The first will be a song they chose for themselves and the second will be a song chosen for them by their mentors.

Hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian announce there will be no sing-off this week on the The X Factor results show tomorrow night. The voters will apparently have complete control over who goes home on The X Factor USA this week. Plus, you probably guessed it, only one act will be voted off this week. So Simon Cowell will have one of his groups in the finale.

Now it’s on to the first round of live performances!

Contestant’s Choice Round:

Tate Stevens – “Bonfire” by Craig Moran”

Judges: Britney Spears says this was not his best performance and at this state in the competition it needs to be. Demi Lovato totally does not agree with Britney and says it was an amazing performrance. He made her feel like she was home in Texas. Simon says he could have done something sappy to appeal to the voters, but instead he performed what he’d want to record. That made it one of Simon’s favorite performances by Tate because he was being himself. He thinks Tate looks like someone who thinks he can win. L. A. says Tate set the stage on fire and it was great fun.

Carly Rose Sonenclar – “Your Song” by Elton John

Judges: L. A. says this was a risky song but he heard things from her in it he had never heard before. He says he can tell she really wants to win and she did a great job. Demi says she has no bias because she has no singers left. She felt it was a bit too predictable. It was another slow slong, but she still really liked it and thought it was well done. Simon says it was a beautiful version of a fantastic song, but it was not his favorite performance from her. She was giving off a nervous vibe. Britney says, as usual, she is so very proud and praises how Carly has blossomed right in front of her.

Emblem3 – “Baby I Love Your Way” by Peter Frampton

Judges: L. A. says the group is lucky they are so charming. He wondered if they would ever have their $5 million moment until this performance. Britney says the performance was very special and it was not fair to just call them a boy band because they are more than that. Demi says this is what she was talking about. Great job. Simon says it reminded him of their first audition. If this doesn’t get them to the finals, nothing will. (And the stage is set for Fifth Harmony to go home tomorrow… as if we didn’t know that already.)

Fifth Harmony – “Anything Could Happen” by Ellie Goulding

Judges: L. A. says this was vocally their best performance in the whole competition. He thought it was very inventive and he’s proud of them. Britney says it was magical and she loved the whole performance. They are full of girl power and inspiring. Demi says it was cute and great. They worked the stage well. (Demi obviously just does not like these girls.) Simon says they came into the competition as underdogs and it would take a miracle for them to make it to the finals. After that performance though, anything could happen.

Mentor’s Choice Round:

Tate Stevens – “Fall” by Clay Walker

Judges: Britney says this performance was a hit! Demi says Tate’s wife must just feel like the luckiest woman in the world. He’s amazing and so talented. Simon says it was a great song and there is about as much chance of Tate going back to his old job as there is him flying to the moon. He deserves to be in the finals. He’s really happy Tate came to the competition. L. A. says he is always great and he was great once again.

Carly Rose Sonenclar – “Imagine” by John Lennon

Judges: L. A. says Carly showed off her artistic side with the piano. It was a hard song but she found the right spots. Demi says the only predictable thing this time was how amazing it was! Simon says he would have preferred she stayed at the piano and he thought the performance was overly complicated. Britney thinks Simon is wrong and it is time for Carly to go out and compete with the big stars.

Emblem3 – “Hey Jude” by The Beatles

Judges: L. A. says they are teen hearthtrobs. He says he was going to tear them up over the song choice but they did great. Britney says it was a top level performance and they should take a bow. Demi thinks they have great potential, although they can’t be compared to The Beatles. Simon says he is proud of how they did tonight and they nailed both their performances.

Fifth Harmony – “Impossible” by Shontelle

Judges: L. A. says it was kind of lazy to do a song they had already done before. The competition is very hard at this point and that maybe wasn’t the best choice. Britney says the performance was still and she doesn’t think they will make it to the finals. Demi says it comes down to how strong their fan base is and how much they vote, but she worries it won’t be enough. Simon says it was the right song for them to do and he loved the Spanish parts. He says they were one of the strongest acts tonight. (I think he picked this song to make them look bad so Emblem3 would beat them because he likes them better, that’s my conspiracy theory.) Simon hopes America gets behind them because they have come a long way. (You are lying through your teeth Simon, you like the boys better.)
